After a long chat with Trevor, it became a bit more clear what the Swords should do. They sent down Gnoguh's small but growing army to Devil's Pass, in order to guard it and start building fortifications. Along with it, they sent the engineers from the mine, a few priests and a set of Sending Stones for improved communication.
They also sent word via Trevor to the Council, to start rallying the army.
The Swords themselves headed to Blackkeep, in order to figure out what was happening and why no one had heard from Blackhand himself in more than week, in the hope of perhaps making a deal.
As it got dark, they stood outside Blackkeep. Using their Rope of Climbing, they easily avoided the patrols on the walls and got over. Unfortunately, once inside, they ran into a patrol that quickly spotted that Truxas was not human. Gnoguh tried to create a diversion, but ended up killing 4 guards. The Swords were split up, with Gnoguh hiding in some stables and the other resting at the Black Halfling Inn.
Torsday 19th Phebroar, Year 26
The next morning, they sent a message to Gnoguh and soon they were all together again. After a quick talk with Jones, one of two remaining spies in town, they decided to head towards the Black Temple and see what was happening.
Since every guard in town was looking for them, they spread out, going in pairs. On the way to the Temple, Gnoguh and Carric got ambushed by some religious bane assassins which apparently didnt care that around 20 civilians got killed in the process. Torn and Truxas rushed to their aid (they were all telepathically linked) and they killed the assassins.
Suspecting foul play, they decided to test Jones. He turned out to be true to the cause, and afterwards he went into the Temple, trying to snoop around a bit. He found out that Sadona, the cleric now seemingly in charge, was not interested in Blackhand learning that the Swords were here - very important information, but unfortunately, Jones got killed in the process.
The Swords then decided to test the other spy as well. Simon turned out to be a good guy as well, and he even provided with a way into the Inner Sanctum of the Black Temple. Provided they could dig through 30 feet of concrete, of course.
However, with Passwall, that is an easy feat (although it did take 4 tries) and soon enough, they found themselves on the inside. A few teleports and some sneaking later, they stood face to face with John Blackhand himself and no less than Bane, exarch and right hand man of the Keeper.
The Swords learned several things from their little chat.
- Blackkeep intend to support Drahar with 5,000 troops, instructed by Bane to do their outmost and obey the Swords.
- The whole invasion by the Horde is merely a very small part of a large plot that started 1000's of years ago.
- It is however vital for the plot that the Swords kill Yeenoghu and stop the invasion.
- Once they have killed Yeenoghu and stopped his armies, they must head to Sigil and go to an Inn called the Headless Devil, and ask for a Odu Messa - she will explain a lot more and then the Swords will be able to do as they wish.
- It is vital that they do not talk about this meta-plot, about Bane or anything along those lines, unless they are in this Bane church, or in the Church of Kord, or in Sigil.
- By killing Yeenoghu, they will attract a lot of attention from some very powerful beings, and only those 3 places are safe from their ears.
- They will soon receive help getting to Sigil
