Status and information about the campaign world

The continent of Drahar has been at peace for almost 120 years. The empire of Matuk seems to finally have accepted that it won't get it's eastern half, now called the Red Empire, back. Trade between the two empires is growing steadily year by year.

The Empire of Matuk is still run by the imperial family that founded it many years ago and their Adamantine Dragons. It is a very Lawful empire, with fair laws for all races and people. Most people are fairly content with the way things are run.

The Races:
Dragonborn: While it is the race of the conquerors back in the day, and the race of the imperial family, dragonborns have no special rights, nor any privileges. You can find dragonborns both among the wealthy and the poor. All other standard races (humans, elves, eladrins, tieflings, halflings, gnomes, goliaths, dwarves, devas, genasi, changelings, half-orcs, half-elves and shadar-kai) are well integrated into Matukian society.

The 12 families:
Each city in the Empire of Matuk is run by one of the 12 noble (all dragonborn) families.

The Matuk family: The Imperial Family. Current emperor is Hazam Matuk who rules the empire from the capital of Arul-Matuk, a huge metropolis of more than 500.000 people.

The M'por family: Current leader is called One-Eyed Draco, an old scarred veteran of many battles and First General of the Imperial Army. Runs Drahar (ca. 75.000 inhabitants) for the emperor.

The Ares family: Current leader is Kobukara, a crafty diplomat. Runs the underground  town the Seven-Pillared Hall (ca. 25.000 inhabitants) for the emperor.

The Virak family: Current leader is Cuma, who is said to be one of the most ambitious nobles. Evil tongues say he wants to be emperor. Runs Zuma-Virak (ca. 150.000 inhabitants) for the emperor.

The Wilds:
While there are many more cities and many more people in Draegor than there has ever been before, they are mostly urban dwellers, living in the big cities. Most grassland is by now farmland, needed to sustain those sizable cities. Small villages litter the farmlands, and the roads are heavily patrolled by the Imperial Guards. Banditry is fairly uncommon and so is monster attacks. They have learned a long time ago that the Imperial Guards are to be avoided.

But as soon as you leave the farmlands, and enter the old forests, hills and mountains, there is no such protection. In fact, its more of a safe heaven, as a patrol will never enter those places unless in pursuit or ordered otherwise. This doesn't mean that there are no people in these places, since it has become the easiest way to avoid the Imperial Tax. Of course, you avoid the Imperial Protection as well, so its still a very small percentage that choose to life outside the protection given by the Empire.
